Creatures was a sub-line of figures in the Tech Deck Dudes series. They were grotesque-looking mutants and monsters that featured articulate limbs. Character designs were drawn by Robin Ator, and the figures were sculpted in-house at Toxic Mom's Studio. X-Concepts would manufacture and distribute the toys. This series ran congruently with Toxic Mom's Studio's other line of figures, the Grimm Dudes line.

Creatures Checklist

Series 1 and 2 checklist.

There were two series of figures released, with a third and fourth series planned. Each series release consisted of six 3.5" figures with at least 2 points of articulation. Each figure was packaged with a custom board, and some even came equipped with weapon-like accessories. Like every other brand of Tech Deck Dude, each figure had a small blurb on the back that explained basic information about them, such as where they lived and where they went to school. Series 1 figures were released in 2002, and Series 2 figures followed a year later in 2003. Due to Series 2's lack of sales, Series 3 would be cancelled prior to its release and Series 4 would never materialize. Toxic Mom's Studio would later close in 2006.

Due to its relative obscurity, this line of figures is considerably rarer than most lines of Tech Deck Dudes. And even though these figures were part of a sub-brand of Tech Deck Dudes, they still fit into the core series' numbering system. So, in order to own every single Tech Deck Dude in the main series, both series of Creatures figures would need to be owned as well.

Series 2[]

Series 3 (Unreleased)[]

These are the figures that would have been apart of the Series 3 lineup, had it been released. According to information provided on Toxic Mom's Studio's website, these figures would have been even more articulate than previous releases.[2]

Trivia[]

  • Although these figures are categorized as "creatures," a fingernail can still be seen on their backs. This implies that they are mutated Tech Deck Dudes, and not other-worldly monsters.
  • This series actually pre-dates the "Dudes With Arms" release of Tech Deck Dudes, with Series 1 releasing a year prior in 2002.
  • In the original version of Tech Deck: Bare Knuckle Grind, the Creatures were going to be bosses in the game. This would've implied that the Creatures were enemies of the Dudes, and did not co-exist with them peacefully.
  • The Creatures are much larger than the regular Dudes figures. However, they are still to scale.
  • As the website description implies, Thooloo is based on the Lovecraftian monster, Cthulu.
  • In the website description for the unreleased Muck figure, it is said that "he is actually a large turd monster." This backstory would've likely been changed prior to the release of the figure, and it probably would have been a mud or sludge monster.
  • Many character designs changed during the development of Series 2. For most of the figures, the caricature on the back of their packaging is a different color than the finalized figure. And in the case of Pam, there appears to be two different versions of the figure. One has her wearing a green dress, and the other has her in a green bikini. It is unclear if this bikini figure is a prototype figure or an earlier release of Pam that was removed or cycled out of store shelves. In any case, the bikini was changed to a dress likely to avoid parental concerns.
  • Strangely, when viewing Toxic Mom's Studio's entire website gallery, Series 3 figures are labeled as Series 2, and Series 2 figures are labeled as Series 1. And upon clicking on the "Series 2" gallery, Series 3 figures are now referred to as Series 1 figures. This is all clearly a mistake by the website writer.[3]
  • On Toxic Mom's Studio's website, the descriptions for Quasimummy and Voodoo are mixed-up. This is an error on the writer's part.
